As suspected (ticket:57), the canister that holds the Globalstar modems is too short for the new, longer Quarafilar Helix (QFH) antenna. The patch antenna is 1.5" long. The new QFH antenna is 7" long. Drilling holes in existing canister and mounting the antenna on end-cap may compromise the waterproofing of the pod. Instead, we need to have Physics Shop at UNC make a longer canister so we can field swap the antenna on mount inside the canister, and swap canisters.
- get specs from YSI for lathing grooves and drilling holes for trimmer-string in
- purchase 5 feet of Sch80 5" PVC Pipe and Type I 0.5" thick (12"x24") PVC Sheet
- get materials and specs to Physics shop

Recieved sch80 pipe from Todd and 0.5" PVC sheet from McMaster?. Specs and materials are at the Physics Shop so that they have a week to do the work. They liked the cool design with the string to hold the bulkhead cap.

Picked up from shop and tested fit with Iridium pod bulkhead. DONE.
Sch80 5" diameter pipe proved difficult to find. Took several days to track down where to buy. Finally got 5' section from
and on orderby phone with McMaster? through Fred and Chris at YSI but canceled since it will take a week to get from McMaster? and got what I needed from Todd @ Commercial Industrial Supply faster.
