Cc:
  • Define requirements for ship capability
  • Determine ship availability
  • Schedule ship (forms, port-of-call, dates)

We need about an 80 foot vessel with A-frame or J-frame capable of handling buoy size and weight (13 feet tall non-instrumented, 15+ feet tall instrumented, 6.5 fee diameter, 2200 lbs) and anchor weight (~2800-3000 lbs) plus 30m 3/4" chain and cable.

Harvey made contact with several different ships that could help.

  • R/V Savannah (SKIO) $10K+ per day (too expensive and very busy)
  • R/V Dan Moore (Cape Fear Community College) $9K+ per day (too expensive)
  • Some vessels in Virginia (Udel, Chesapeake Bay buoy tender)
  • New NOAA SRVx (Monitor National Marine Sanctuary support vessel)

The NOAA SRVx vessel and crew are available and capable to handle our deployment requirements. First available time is Aug 18-22. Our alternate deployment window will be early October.
